"The Tree of Life" movie landscape

This project was used as a location in the Academy Award-nominated movie (and winner of The Palm d'Or at The Cannes Film Festival) "The Tree of Life," which was directed by Terrence Malick. The project was a remodel of a home that was built in 1969; the original architect was involved in the remodel. Our goal for the landscape was to integrate the home,s interior (including limestone flooring) into the landscape.

Modern Cottage

This project was a remodel/expansion of a 1930's cottage; the architect added additional spaces, and a pool, that were modern in style. The landscape is meant to play off of both the home's original, traditional cottage style, as well as the newer, modern additions. The landscape's minimal design is meant to compliment the owner's interior aesthetic. Architecture by Brian Dillard Architecture. Home remodel by Foursquare Builders.

Modern Courtyard

This homeowner had a spare, minimal interior, and wanted the landscape to be the same style. All areas are courtyards and are viewed from the interior.

A Pool & A Fountain

This pool was custom designed to fit into the existing landscape that we had been working on for a few years. The home has a beautiful, classical, European style and we designed a lap pool that would fit the style of the home, and the client's lifestyle. The fountain was also designed to add to the ambience of the home's landscape. We created the block limestone stairwell so the homeowner's could easily access the pool.

The client did an addition and remodel of their existing home, and asked us to help make the landscape more comtemporary, yet still respect the traditional style of their ranch house.

Allendale 2016

Austin's Allendale neighborhood is full of wonderful homes designed and built in the 1960s. They have a casual mid-century feel, with great native limestone facades. They are Austin's version of the California trend for that time period. The clients - young Texas musicians who have spent time in California - wanted something that fit their lifestyle: a place to hang out with a few friends (and their dog) outside, easy maintenance, and stylish enough to fit the home's character, and a vibe that felt current. Together we created a space that felt modern, clean, and had plenty of room to relax with their friends - and the dog!

This was a complete landscape remodel after the home’s interiors were remodeled, and the previous landscape was decimated by extreme freezes, record droughts, the death of a large tree and an influx of deer. We expanded the outdoor entertaining area with a new patio area and a custom outdoor fireplace.
